When you see a broccolini side dish on a restaurant menu, this is probably what you’re hoping it tastes like … So why not treat yourself at home? Lemon, garlic, and sweet toasted almonds are the perfect match for this veg.

You will need

Serves 1

  • 1 bunch broccolini
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
  • Handful of almonds
  • 1 lemon, juice only
  • Salt and pepper

  1. Step 1

    In a very hot pan, heat the olive oil, then add the broccolini, and fry until charred on one side. You don’t need to move them around much, just leave them to char.

  2. Step 2

    Remove broccolini from pan and let drain on a paper towel.

  3. Step 3

    Turn the heat down low on the pan. Place in the almonds and fry in the flavoured oil (add a dash extra oil if the pan is dry). Add the garlic, lemon juice and season with salt and pepper. Give them a toss, and just as the almonds start to brown, remove from heat.

  4. Step 4

    Pour over the broccolini straight away, and enjoy warm :)
