An absolute classic, this French onion dip is creamy, savoury, and surprisingly easy to make from scratch. Slow-cooked onions do the heavy lifting, making it perfect for crackers, veggies, or a last-minute platter.

You will need

Serves 8

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 brown onion, thinly diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, diced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 bunch chives, diced
  • 1 cup plant-based sour cream
  • Salt and pepper

Directions

5 mins to prep

15 mins to cook

  1. Step 1

Place the olive oil in a pan and bring to a medium heat.

  2. Step 2

Add in the onions and a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and cook on medium-low for 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Add the garlic and cook until golden but not heavy colour. Turn the heat off and let cool.

  4. Step 4

Add all the ingredients together in a bowl and mix gently together. Be careful not to over-whip the sour cream, as it can break down and turn to liquid.

  5. Step 5

Serve with chopped up veggies and crackers or a cheese plate.

Hot tip!

This dip works amazingly in a toastie or mixed in with pasta.
